The Pets I Love Veterinary Hospital was founded by Dr. Debra Szpicek and Dr. Anthony Smatt in 2014. They have been an integral part in serving the community and their animals ever since. They maintain a welcoming, warm and safe place for owners to bring their pets and receive personal attention with a high standard of veterinary care.
Dr. Anthony Smatt
Veterinarian / OwnerDr. Smatt received his degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. He was born and raised on the island of Jamaica, where he worked with a local veterinarian, who was a large influence on his decision to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. He has worked with both small animal and exotics, with a special interest in emergency medicine and surgery. He and his wife, Dr. Szpicek opened the doors to The Pets I Love Veterinary Hospital in 2014. Together they are raising their three children in Monroe, NY.
Dr. Debra Szpicek
Veterinarian / OwnerDr. Debra Szpicek is a Veterinarian and Co owner of The Pets I Love Veterinary Hospital, opened in 2014, along with her husband Dr. Anthony Smatt. She graduated in 2002 from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts and completed her clinical year at the University of Missouri. She received her undergraduate degree as a licensed Veterinary Technologist from Mercy College in 1998. Dr. Szpicek became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist in 2012 after having her own health issues in which acupuncture played an integral part in her recovery. She has a special interest in internal medicine.
Office ManagerAmanda joined The Pets I Love in 2017. Overseeing all the administrative functions in the hospital as Office Manager; she directly handles all financial matters such as accounts payable, inventory control, day-to-day operations and smooth running of the office. She has worked in the veterinary field since 2008, first as a receptionist and worked her way through different roles before landing at The Pets I Love. You can find her up front snuggling up with every snottie-rottie and boxer she can get her hands on. Amanda has a Rottweiler named Shelby and a black cat named He-Man.
Licensed Veterinary TechnicianOriginally from Queens, Rachel attended La Guardia Community College and became a licensed technician in 2006. She moved upstate eleven years ago and commuted while working at a NYC animal hospital catering to the fancy pets of Chelsea for over 9 years. She decided to bring her skills closer to home after the birth of her son. Rachel worked in the area at a few different hospitals before finding her place at The Pets I Love in the spring of 2018. Due to the shortened commute she now has more time for camping, fishing and bike riding. She lives in the Warwick area with her family, several chickens, 2 fish and 1 cat.
Licensed Veterinary TechnicianElla has been in the veterinary field since 2003. She graduated from SUNY Canton in 2010 earning a degree as a licensed Veterinary Technician. She joined The Pets I Love in 2015 and brings with her many years of experience in emergency and critical care medicine. Ella has always had a love for animals and knew at a young age she wanted to work with them. She is also very talented and is the queen of DIY projects! Her most recent creative projects are decoupaging furniture and coasters with comics! She has a Chinese Crested dog named Wesley and two cats, Ash and Cole.
Client Service Representative / Technician AssistantLauren is a Client Service Representative and a Technician Assistant and has been with The Pets I Love since 2016. She is currently taking classes to earn a degree as a Veterinary Technician and would like to pursue a career as a Veterinarian. Her hope is to educate others about their impact on animals in the environment and to study wildlife, as well. Lauren’s favorite thing about working at The Pets I Love is meeting all the new patients and getting to know them. She also loves training the hospitals’ pets to help them find forever homes! Lauren has two dogs, a poodle named Tupper and a Yorkie named Chiki.
